OVERVIEW
What to know quickly
Stagg is not one guitar tier. A basic SES-30 S-style, a Silveray original-body model and an acoustic or bass can occupy very different specification and resale neighborhoods.
IDENTIFY YOUR GUITAR
Which Stagg do you have?
The model code is the fastest route through Stagg’s very broad catalog. Prefixes such as SES, SET, SEM and SVY help separate familiar platform types and original-design Silveray instruments.
- SES: Stagg S-style solidbodies; SES-30 is a common starter model.
- SET: T-style family, including standard and Plus variants.
- SVY: Silveray original-design electrics such as the 533, Custom, Special and Special Deluxe.
- SEM: heavier/metal-oriented solidbodies; identify pickups and bridge configuration.
SERIES & MARKET POSITION
The code tells you which Stagg family you are looking at
The current Stagg site continues to list multiple electric families, including SES, SET, SEM and Silveray models, alongside acoustic guitars and basses.
USED VALUE GUIDE
Start with the exact model
Stagg used prices are often constrained by accessible new pricing and wide availability, but discontinued or unusual Silveray and specialty models can behave differently. Clean setup and function can matter more than age on the common entry models.
- Check current new pricing before assigning a used ask.
- On low-cost electrics, inspect fret ends, nut slots, tremolo setup and switch/pot function.
- Identify Silveray by exact model rather than “odd Stagg electric.”
- Country-of-origin can vary by product and era; read the actual label instead of assuming.
CURRENT USED MARKET
See what the market is doing now
“Stagg guitar” is broad enough to mix starter instruments with Silveray originals. Add SES, SET, SVY or the printed model code.
COMPARE
What else lives in this neighborhood?
Common SES and SET models overlap Squier, Glarry, Harley Benton and other accessible S/T-style instruments. Silveray models deserve comparison with other original-design value guitars rather than only generic starter packages.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Before you buy—or price—one
- Do not confuse Stagg’s Belgian company base with a claim that every instrument is made in Belgium.
- The 1970s Japanese Stagg history and the post-1995 global brand are different production contexts.
- Accessible new prices can cap ordinary used values.
- A good setup can make a budget Stagg much more useful without making it a higher-tier factory model.
HISTORY & COMMENTARY
Japanese guitar roots, Belgian relaunch, global distribution
Stagg says the brand began as a guitar company in Japan in the 1970s. In 1995, Leonardo Baldocci of Belgian distributor EMD Music relaunched and expanded Stagg. The modern company is headquartered in Brussels and says the brand is now available in more than 70 countries across a wide range of musical instruments and accessories.
